Multi-National Base (MNB) Tarin Kot is located in south central Afghanistan's volatile and remote Uruzgan province. Under contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Berger/Cummins is designing and building two co-joined diesel plants, one a 10 MW, 50 Hz plant with 11 kV distribution and a second 6 MW, 60 Hz plant with 13.8 kV distribution system. Both plants will provide prime power for 24/7 operations.

The scope includes:

  • Design, build, supply, install, test and commission generator sets and electrical equipment for two complete operating power plants inclusive of associated step up transformers and summation switchgear;
  • Supply of equipment and transportation to this remote power plant site;
  • Design and construct an above ground fuel supply and storage system, adequate for 48 hour supply;
  • Completion of site civil works, mechanical and electrical installation;
  • Design, build, supply, install, test and commission two complete and separate distribution systems with a combined total length of approximately 10 kilometers and more than 70 substations; and
  • Provide 24/7 operations and maintenance services for the power plants and the distribution systems.
