BAGHDAD, Iraq — After Berger/Cummins equipment was demobilized from FOB Falcon as of 30 September 2010, Berger/Cummins continued to provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services to the MILCON power plant and overhead distribution system until mid-October 2010, at which point the plant was turned over to the Iraqi Government. Since 10 October 2010, the Iraqi 2nd Federal Police Division has been running all operations and maintenance of the MILCON power plant.

Prior to turnover and at the request of the US Army, Berger/Cummins offered four days of in-depth, comprehensive training on operations and maintenance of the MILCON power plant to personnel from the Iraqi Facility Engineer Team (I-FET). Electrical Engineers from I-FET traveled to FOB Falcon in late September 2010 for a full base tour and a thorough introduction to the 11 kV overhead distribution and substations located throughout the base. Beginning the following day, Berger/Cummins staff offered full hands-on training on generator operations, synchronizing single and multiple generators, monitoring generator parameters, feeder interruption and power restoration, substations, safety procedures, and black start procedures. Following the completion of training on the second day, the trainees continued to conduct plant operations to ensure that they received ample hands-on experience in plant operations.

Upon arrival on-site on the final day of training, the trainees began plant operations in full. They successfully implemented the various procedures associated with operating the MILCON power plant, and subsequently received certificates of completion. The training was highly successful, ensuring that the power plant will be in good hands after Berger/Cummins completes its transition off of FOB Falcon.
