Berger/Cummins Wins New Delivery Orders in Afghanistan

October 3, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC — In September 2011, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, awarded the Berger/Cummins Joint Venture three new delivery orders in Afghanistan under the Worldwide Emergency Power Operations and Maintenance program. Under these new delivery orders, Berger/Cummins will provide prime power services to three strategically important military bases: on Camp Marmal, at the foot of the Marmal mountains in north central Afghanistan outside the city of Mazir-e-Sharif; Forward Operating Base Konduz, 50 kilometers south of the Tajikistan border; and Multi-National Base Tarin Kot in Uruzgan Province. Berger/Cummins also provides Operations and Maintenance to a two-megawatt power plant on Camp Nathan Smith in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, which was installed by the prime power team in April. The combined output of power on these four bases will bring the Berger/Cummins Afghanistan installed prime power portfolio to more than 25 MW along with the new construction and installation of almost 19 kilometers of underground distribution and 75 substations.

Berger/Cummins provides global expertise in design, procurement, construction, and operations and maintenance of power generation and distribution systems for continuous and reliable prime power. The Louis Berger Group and Cummins Power Generation have worked together in Afghanistan since 2003. In addition to its Afghanistan power portfolio, the joint venture has supported the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Iraq, providing 155 MW of power to key military bases at the peak of the Iraq program. Earlier this year Berger/Cummins completed the design and construction of a 10 MW turnkey plant for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Liberia and repaired Federal Emergency Management Agency generators in the U.S.
